Iran’s FM Due in UAE for Economic Gathering
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will leave Tehran for Abu Dhabi today to attend the 2nd meeting of Iran-UAE High Joint Economic Commission.
The preliminary, expert-level meeting of the joint commission will kick off on Monday between the deputies foreign minister of Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
Representatives from the two countries’ private and state sectors will also attend the expert-level meeting to prepare a number of documents and agreements for a Tuesday meeting, to be presided over by foreign ministers.
Foreign Minister Zarif and his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan will co-chair ministerial meeting of the joint commission on Tuesday.
The two top diplomats are scheduled to sign a series of agreements in the upcoming gathering to enhance cooperation in all fields.
Moreover, the ministers will also use the opportunity to discuss a range of issues on the bilateral, regional and international developments.
The volume of non-oil trade exchanges between Iran and the Persian Gulf state reached $9.637 billion during the first three quarters of the last Iranian year (ended on March 20, 2014).
Bilateral relations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi have been developing since Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took the office in August last year.
In December, 2013, Zarif paid an official visit to the UAE and held a meeting with Emirati President Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always taken steps in line with the welfare and interests of regional countries and emphasizes the establishment of peace, stability and balance (in the region),” Zarif said at the time.
