MP Emphasizes Equal Footing in Iran-Sextet Nuclear Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian lawmaker underlined that the country’s negotiators in the nuclear talks with world powers should not approve of any threatening language that would violate the Iranian nation’s dignity, and added that Tehran should continue the talks on an equal footing.

“Iran’s team of (nuclear) negotiators should continue the talks on an equal footing and with (considering) the mutual rights,” member of the Iranian parliament Jamshid Jafarpour told the Tasnim News Agency on Tuesday.

He also urged the Iranian representatives engaged in talks with the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) to vigilantly uphold the Islamic Republic’s dignity and independence.

No kind of “illegal threats” by Washington is acceptable, Jafarpour added.

His comments echoed earlier remarks by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, who on April 9 called on the country’s nuclear negotiators to not submit to any bullying language.

“Our country’s (nuclear) negotiators should not approve of any sort of language of force by the other side,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a gathering of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) staff at the time.

Delegations representing Iran and Group 5+1 concluded their latest round of talks over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program in the Austrian capital of Vienna in April.

The two sides are slated to meet again in Vienna on May 13, with the aim of putting an end to the decade-long standoff on the Islamic Republic’s peaceful nuclear program.
