Iranian, Russian FMs Hold Meeting in Moscow
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian foreign minister and his Russian counterpart in a bilateral meeting in Moscow discussed a range of topics, including the issues of mutual interest as well as the most recent regional and international developments.
Mohammad Javad Zarif and Russia’s Sergei Lavrov held the meeting on Tuesday, ahead of a gathering of the foreign ministers of the Caspian Sea littoral countries in Moscow.
During the get-together, the two ministers called for continued negotiations on the regional and international issues as well as security of the region and the international campaign against terrorism.
They also called for cooperation on the Caspian Sea, a definite legal regime for that water body and expansion of the parliamentary cooperation between Iran and Russia, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry's official website.
They both regarded an upcoming meeting between the Iranian and Russian presidents in China as a turning point for the expansion of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.
The two ministers further discussed the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the Arab country’s presidential election, slated for June.
Moreover, both Zarif and Lavrov expressed the hope that the nuclear negotiations between Iran and six world powers would yield good results.
Delegations representing Iran and Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) concluded their latest round of talks over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program in the Austrian capital of Vienna in April.
The two sides are slated to meet again in Vienna on May 13, with the aim of putting an end to the decade-long standoff on the Islamic Republic’s peaceful nuclear program.
