Iran, Belarus Study Ways to Develop Trade Ties, Banking Transactions
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Officials from Iran and Belarus explored avenues for removing the obstacles to trade and money transfer between the two countries in the wake of the unilateral sanctions the West has imposed on Iran’s economic and banking sector.
Head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran Valiollah Afkhami paid a three-day visit to Belarus last week to prepare the ground for the 12th meeting of Iran-Belarus Joint Commission.
Heading a delegation of representatives from the Iranian banks and companies, Afkhami held meetings with the Belarusian economic officials to discuss procedures for resolving the banking problems.
They also discussed procedures for extending contracts of those Iranian companies involved in various projects in Belarus.
Afkhami said the Western sanctions on Iran, especially on its banking sector, have imposed restrictions on the trade ties and money transactions between Tehran and Minsk, adding that plans to overcome those problems were discussed in his recent visit to Belarus.
Iran and Belarus have developed good relations in recent years, particularly in the economic and trade sectors and have signed a number of agreements to shore up bilateral cooperation.
In 2010, Iran inaugurated a large copper wire factory and the second phase of Samand car assembly line in Belarus.
