French Diplomat: Paris Backs Iran-Sextet Nuclear Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – France supports the nuclear negotiations between Iran and six world powers and hopes that the talks will yield a final agreement, French Foreign Ministry Director General for North Africa and Middle East Affairs Jean Francois Giroux said.

“My country backs the negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) and is hopeful that the talks would be fruitful and result in a final deal,” Giroux said in Sunday meeting with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Western European Affairs Abolqasem Delfi.

Delegates representing Iran and the group of six world powers – Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany - concluded the latest round of negotiations on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Friday.

The fourth round of marathon talks was aimed at drafting a comprehensive nuclear deal. The two parties inked a six-month deal on Tehran’s nuclear activities in Switzerland on November 24, 2013.

The French diplomat also emphasized the importance of promoting ties with Iran and said that Paris is keen to continue political talks with Tehran on bilateral ties and regional issues.

“Possible obstacles should not be allowed to prevent us from expanding bilateral relations,” Giroux stated.

During his two-day visit to Iran, Giroux also met with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian and the Supreme Leader's top foreign policy adviser, Ali Akbar Velayati.
