Iran's Parliamentary Delegation Due in Syria to Monitor Election

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Sunday that a group of Iranian parliamentarians will go to Syria to oversee the presidential election.

Syria’s presidential election is slated to be held on June 3 and the three candidates, Bashar al-Assad, Maher Abdel Hafiz Hajjar and Hassan Abdullah al-Nuri, have launched their election campaign from May 11.

Amir Abdollahian raised the issue while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the round table discussion on Iran's role in Settlement of the Middle East crises.

Elsewhere, Amir Abdollahian said that Hamas leader Khalid Mashal managed to remove ambiguities on Syria, citing Mashal's statement about non-interference of the Palestinian liberation fighters in the Syrian affairs.

Asked whether the Arab states in the Persian Gulf which have been Iranian trade partners deposited the frozen assets to the Central Bank of Iran's account after the Geneva Accord, the Iranian diplomat said banking system has taken some measures in the Persian Gulf regarding the agreement on repatriation of Iranian frozen assets, including $2.4 billion. The transactions have been made freely.

To a question on the meeting of Ahmad Jarba, the Syrian opposition Coalition leader with the MKO ringleader Masood Rajavi in Paris, Amir Abdollahian said that Ahmad Jarba has a weak personality politically and at the same time such a person can not distinguish with whom he is meeting. He is not appropriate to have a say in the Syrian future."

He said the MKO is dead and unable to declare itself by no means in the Syrian event, Iranian Foreign Ministry official website reported.
