Zarif Not to Attend OIC Meeting in Saudi Arabia Due to Upcoming Vienna Talks
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Sunday that he cannot attend the Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting in the Saudi city of Jeddah as the conference coincides with the upcoming nuclear negotiations between Iran and world powers in Vienna.
The next round nuclear talks between Iran and the six major powers (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) will start on June 16 and Zarif as Iran’s chief negotiator will attend the conference.
Zarif said that in the non-aligned conference in Algiers he told Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulaziz bin Abdullah that the time for the Vienna talks had been set before and it was not possible to change it, the Iranian daily, Tehran Times reported.
