Iran, Zimbabwe Call for Close Cooperation in Science, Technology
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Vice-President for Science and Technology Affairs Sorena Sattari said his country is ready to share its experiences in various areas of science with Zimbabwe .
Iran is ready to cooperate with Zimbabwe in various scientific fields such as nanotechnology, biotechnology and information technology as well as commercialization of the sciences, Sattari said during a meeting with Zimbabwean Science and Technology Minister Olivia Muchena in Tehran on Wednesday.
Muchena, for her part, commented on the commonalities between the two countries, emphasizing the need to increase mutual cooperation in various areas of technology.
“We are keen to cooperate (with Iran) in the fields of nanotechnology, biotechnology, entrepreneurship, marketing, commercialization and promotion of higher education in universities and research centers,” Muchena said.
She also described utilizing Iran’s experiences to develop scientific institutions in Zimbabwe, which is under pressure of economic sanctions, as one of the African country’s priorities.
There are growing economic, social and cultural ties between Iran and Zimbabwe. Relations between the two countries started in 1979 when the late Vice President Simon Muzenda visited Tehran to meet leaders of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. Zimbabwe opened an embassy in Tehran in 2003.
In 2009 President Mugabe in a state TV address confirmed his support for the Iranian nuclear program and the shared struggle against "demagogues and international dictators.”
