World Cup 2014: Portugal Draws 2-2 with US
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Portugal's Silvestre Varela scored an injury time goal to secure a 2-2 draw against the US in the 2014 World Cup Group G match in Manaus.
Nani scored for Portugal in the fifth minute but Jermaine Jones equalized the match in the 64th minute.
With nine minutes remaining, Clint Dempsey made the American team happy but Varela headed home Cristiano Ronaldo's cross to stave off elimination.
“Everything was done for the big favorites to go and move on. We're going to do it the tough way,” US coach Jurgen Klinsmann said in the post match news conference.
US now has four points in Group G, the same as Germany. Both Portugal and Ghana have one point. The Americans will face Germany on Thursday in Recife, while Portugal takes on Ghana at the same time in Brasilia.
