Iran Eliminated from World Cup, Argentina and Nigeria into Last 16

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran football team lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-1 and was eliminated from the 2014 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

Edin Dzeko was on target for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 23rd minute. Manchester City striker shot past Iran goalkeeper Alireza Haghighi.

In the 59th minute, Miralem Pjanic extended Bosnia’s lead and made it difficult for the Iranian football team.

Reza Ghoochannejhad reduced the deficit in the 82nd but one minute later Avdija Vrsajevic made it 3-1.

“We learned lessons from the World Cup. Bosnian players are playing in the European league and are experienced,” Iran coach Carlos Queiroz said. “From tomorrow we will start our work.”

Elsewhere, Argentina defeated Nigeria 3-2 at the Estadio Beira-Rio in the group.

Lionel Messi scored twice in the 3rd and 45th minutes.  Marcos Rojo also scored in the 50th minute.

Nigeria striker Ahmed Musa had a brace in the 4th and 47th minutes.

Argentina and Nigeria qualified for the last 16 with nine and four points respectively.

Bosnia came third with three points and Iran finished in fourth place with one point.
