World Cup 2014: Switzerland 3 – 0 Honduras
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Switzerland grabbed the second berth into the last 16 following an impressive 3-0 win over Honduras in Group E courtesy of an exquisite hat-trick from Xhedran Shaqiri on Thursday.
Four years ago, Honduras denied Switzerland a place in the knockout rounds, where the two teams played out a goalless draw.
Bayern Munich striker scored in the 6th, 31st and 71st minutes at the Arena Amazonia Stadium.
“As a coach, after losing 5-2 to France you know it’s important to stay calm. I made the most of our strengths,” Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld told FIFA.com
“Xherdan Shaqiri is a player who can make the difference because he can decide games on his own. Even against France he played very well. I put him as a number 10 today and that paid off. We’ve got nothing left to lose so things can only get better for us,” the German added.
Switzerland will play Group F winner Argentina on July 1.
