Iran: Israel Should Not Be Allowed to Continue Atrocities

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani has called for global actions to stop the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, saying Israel should not feel that the world is merely a silent viewer of its inhumane acts and crimes.

The Iranian president made the remarks in a phone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart on Friday.

The two presidents expressed concerns over the crisis in the coastal enclave and emphasized the necessity of close cooperation as well as using the entire existing capacities to put an end to the violence and aggression against the Palestinians.

“The defenseless Palestinian women and children in Gaza are facing tremendous pressures and savagery. In such a critical situation prevailing, all the Islamic countries should do their best to prevent the continuation of the catastrophe,” Rouhani told Bambang Yudhoyono.

The Iranian president also noted that Palestine has always been the axis of unity for the Muslims as well as a major concern for the Islamic world.

Indonesia has throughout the past decades been one of the Islamic countries which has defended the rights of the Palestinian people, said president Rouhani.

The Indonesian president for his part said his country was also worried about the prevailing crisis in Gaza, urging cooperation for putting an end to the violence in the impoverish territory.

President Bambang Yudhoyono called on his Iranian counterpart as the head of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) to shoulder the leadership of a move to stop the war on Gaza in collaboration with the regional countries.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono further reiterated that Jakarta fully supports Iran, as the rotating head of the NAM, in any effort aimed at promoting Islamic unity and solidarity.
