Quds Day Rallies Warning to UN Silence on Israeli Atrocities: MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian lawmaker said strong presence of people in International Quds Day rallies served as a warning to the UN silence on Israel’s atrocities against the Palestinians.

Abbas Ali Mansouri Arani questioned the United Nation’s muted response to Israel’s ongoing atrocities in Gaza and said “one of the targets for the Iranian people in the International Quds Day demonstrations was the United Nations, which has remained silent on the crimes committed (by Israel) in Gaza.”

The massive turnout in the anti-Israeli rallies indicated that the people consider Palestine as an important issue for the Muslim world, member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission told the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.

On Friday, Iranians of different social strata held massive rallies all over the country to mark the International Quds Day in a show of support for the oppressed nation of Palestine.

The huge demonstrations saw Iranians venting their anger on the Tel Aviv regime and its allies and calling for an end to the Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued at the conclusion of the rallies, the Iranian protesters described the Zionist atrocities in Gaza as "war crime and genocide," and called on the international bodies, human rights organizations and Muslim countries to condemn the Israeli crimes and take serious action against Zionist regime officials.

Friday marches came against the backdrop of a massive Israeli onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip which has already killed over 900 Palestinians.
