MP: Gaza War Disclosed Nature of Israel, Allies

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker said the atrocities committed by Israel during its military offensive against the Gaza Strip was made public in spite of futile attempts by its supporters to keep the slaughter of Palestinians in the dark.

Although the US and Israel’s other staunch allies stepped up a media campaign to hide “their heinous face” from the world’s public opinion, their support for the Israeli regime during the onslaught against people of Gaza was unearthed, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s national security and foreign policy commission said on Friday.

The lawmaker further praised Palestinians for withstanding the all-out Israeli offensive on their land, saying the attackers failed to achieve their purposes.

On July 8, Israel launched air strikes on Gaza. After 10 days of bombardment of the enclave from the air and sea, the Israeli forces started a ground operation in densely populated territory.

Medical sources in the Gaza Strip say nearly 2,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed, with some 10,000 people wounded and as many as 3,000 Palestinian homes have been destroyed or damaged.

More than a quarter of the impoverished enclave's 1.8 million residents have been also displaced by more than a month of bloodshed by the Israeli forces.

On Wednesday, Palestinian and Israeli negotiators agreed to extend a ceasefire in Gaza for another five days after failing to reach a long-term agreement in Cairo-mediated talks.
