Eshaghi Claims Iran’s First Gold in Youth Olympic Games
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Mahdi Eshaghi from Iran won the first gold medal at Nanjing 2014 on Sunday.
The 16-year-old seized a gold medal at the Men -48kg taekwondo event at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
Eshaghi beat Chen-Yu Wang from Chinese Taipei 17-9 in the final match and won the gold medal.
He defeated Tawin Hanprab of Thailand 20-12 in the quarter-final and booked a place in the final after beating Stephane Audibert from France 16-0.
Iran is participating in the Youth Olympics with 16 athletes in swimming, judo, shooting, equestrian, athletic, taekwondo, beach volleyball, Greco-Roman and weightlifting.
The 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games (officially known as The 2nd Summer Youth Olympics Games) is the second Summer Youth Olympic Games, an international sports, education and cultural festival for teenagers, which got underway from August 16 to 28 in Nanjing, People's Republic of China.
