Rouhani: Iran Not Afraid of Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran is not afraid of the US-led sanctions over its nuclear energy program.

“We are not afraid of sanctions. The government has handled the affairs despite sanctions. Sanction is oppression and aggression against the rights of the Iranian nation. It is our duty to put the aggressors in their place,” said president Rouhani on Saturday.

President Rouhani also praised the country’s nuclear negotiators for taking on “the formidable task” and urged full support for them.

Rouhani said Tehran will not waste time and will do its best to push ahead with the nuclear negotiations with the six world powers.

Iran and the Sextet are to resume their negotiations to discuss ways of reaching a final agreement over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

The two sides clinched a landmark interim deal in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 23, 2013. The agreement took effect on January 20 and expired six months later on July 20.

The two sides have agreed on the extension of their discussions until November 24 in an effort to achieve a permanent nuclear deal.
