Iran: No Military Cooperation with US against ISIL

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham denied the allegations that Tehran has agreed to cooperate with Washington to fight Takfiri militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group in Iraq.

On Friday, Afkham rejected a report by the state-funded BBC, which quoted unknown sources as saying that Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had authorized “his top commander to co-ordinate military operations with the US, Iraqi and Kurdish forces”.

“Our stances on the issue (of cooperation with the US) have been previously announced and the report is not true,” she noted.

In the meantime, Washington has also announced that there is no plan for coordination with Iran on fighting the ISIL.

Iran has repeatedly voiced its support for the Iraqi government in its battle against the ISIL militants.
