US-led Military Action Violation of Syria’s Sovereignty: Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister slammed the US-led airstrikes against ISIL terrorists in Syria as violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty.
“We consider the move by the US and a number of countries as a violation of the national sovereignty (of Syria) and the international law and a basis for adopting new interfering measures in the region,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Tuesday.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is monitoring the US airstrikes on parts of Syria and the scope of them with sensitivity and carefulness,” he added.
The Iranian diplomat also criticized the US military operations in Syria as interference in the country’s internal affairs, saying terrorism cannot be tackled through “Hollywood-style adventurism”.
Amir Abdollahian blamed the previous interfering approaches by the US as one of the reasons behind the spread of terrorism in the region.
“From Tehran’s viewpoint, no military action in the Syrian territories would be acceptable without permission from that country’s government and observance of the international law, because the battle against terrorism could not justify the violation of the countries’ national sovereignty,” he added.
His comments came after he US, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates began launching airstrikes on the ISIL targets in Syria on Monday.
Using a mix of manned aircraft -fighter jets and bombers- plus Tomahawk cruise missiles, the strikes were part of the expanded military campaign that US President Barack Obama authorized nearly two weeks ago in order to disrupt and destroy the ISIL militants.
