Iran Parliament Speaker Praises Ireland’s Approach to Regional Issues
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani lauded Ireland’s approach to issues concerning the Middle East region and expressed the hope that bilateral meetings between the two countries’ officials would lead to the expansion of ties.
“Ireland is a member of the European Union and we regard their approach to the peaceful issues of our region as more realistic (than some other EU states),” Larijani said after his Tuesday meeting with Seán Barrett, the speaker of Dáil Éireann, the lower house and principal chamber of the Oireachtas (Irish legislature).
“We value the approach” and hope that the meetings the Irish parliament speaker holds with members of Iran-Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group as well as other Iranian officials will lead to the expansion of relations between the two countries, he said.
Larijani also described his meeting with the Irish official as “good” and said that the talks covered a range of issues, including parliamentary cooperation and ways to promote trade ties between the two countries.
Earlier on September 21, a delegation of Iranian lawmakers, led by Head of Iran-Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group Javad Heravi, paid a visit to the Irish capital of Dublin.
During their four-day stay in the European country, the Iranian MPs held meetings with a number of senior Irish lawmakers and Ireland’s minister of agriculture.
