Abdullah Calls for Closer Iran-Afghanistan Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah lauded Iran’s support for his country and stressed the need to promote Tehran-Kabul bilateral relations.
In a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Kabul Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Abdullah appreciated Iran’s support for his country and said the Afghan government is willing to expand cooperation with Tehran.
“Afghanistan is committed to preserving and strengthening ties with Iran and hopes that the Islamic Republic will promote the relations with Kabul in all arenas,” he said.
The Iranian ambassador, for his part, congratulated Abdullah on his appointment as the new chief executive of Afghanistan and emphasized that Tehran welcomes the formation of a unity government as well as the establishment of peace and security in the country.
During the meeting, Bahrami also discussed the issue of Afghan refugees in Iran and called for closer cooperation between the two countries to resolve their problems.
