Leader: Iran’s Military Preparedness Should Increase Regardless of Politics

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday emphasized the necessity for incessant progress of the Iranian Armed Forces irrespective of the political developments.

“Our Armed Forces should increase their preparedness constantly regardless of the political calculations, and should do the strategic planning by identifying their own shortcomings and also by studying the enemy’s possibilities and weaknesses,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a gathering of the Navy’s high-ranking commanders and officials here in Tehran on Sunday.

Pointing to Iran’s long water borders and the huge investment the enemies have made in the region around the country, the Leader stressed, “The Navy should continue playing its major and significant role in safeguarding the national security and public defense and protecting the country’s rigid borders through the up-to-date boost to the military preparedness and capabilities.”

Ayatollah Khamenei further called on the armed forces to take the opportunity during the peacetime to serve the country in the scientific and construction sectors and to increase their deterrent power.

“The issue of development of the coasts of Makran is also among those basic tasks, and the plans for that region should be carried out more rapidly with the administration’s cooperation,” the Leader underlined.

The coasts of Makran, located in the country’s southeastern region on the rims of the Oman Sea, have in recent years attracted the attention of many Iranian decision-makers and military officials.

In relevant comments last year, Ayatollah Khamenei touched on the prosperity that the Navy can bring to Iran's southeastern coastal regions, and said, “If the administration pays necessary attention, the Navy can prepare the ground for the speedy development and growth of this region.”
