Iran Deputy FM: US Actions against ISIL Ineffective
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - An Iranian deputy foreign minister described the US-led coalition against the ISIL terrorist group as ineffective, saying the foreign states involved in the mission are simply seeking their own interests.
The regional nations can establish stability and security through sincere cooperation, Hossein Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with his Omani counterpart Ahmed bin Yousef bin Obaid al-Harthy in Muscat on Monday.
Iran's deputy foreign minister for African and Middle Eastern affairs also pointed to what he called common threats against regional countries including ISIL terrorism and extremism and called for the expansion of security and defense cooperation between Iran and Oman as well as other regional countries.
The Omani deputy foreign minister for his part hailed “Iran’s undeniable regional role” saying expansion of ties with Tehran tops agenda of Muscat’s foreign policy.
Al-Harthy referred to the growing threats posed by terrorist groups in the region and underscored the necessity of expansion of cooperation among regional states to counter such menaces.
During the meeting, the Iranian and Omani officials also discussed the latest regional developments including the situation in Yemen, Bahrain, Iraq, Egypt and Syria.
Iran and Oman enjoy age-old and close ties and their relations have become even closer after the two sides' agreements to boost mutual cooperation, especially on economic fields.
