Attack on House of Iran’s Yemen Envoy Draws UNSC Condemnation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Members of the United Nations Security Council strongly condemned a recent terrorist attack targeting the residence of the Iranian ambassador to Yemen’s capital Sana’a.

In a statement on Thursday, the UNSC members decried the incident as a “heinous act” that puts the lives of innocent people in jeopardy.

Such incidents “seriously impede the normal work of diplomatic representatives and officials,” it added.

“Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security… acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivation,” the statement added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry had summoned Yemen’s chargé d’affaires and officially conveyed Tehran’s protest over the Arab government’s failure to provide security for Iranian diplomatic mission.

Iran also called for identifying the perpetrators of the car bomb attack and bringing them to justice.

A branch of the al-Qaeda militant group in Yemen has claimed responsibility for the Wednesday blast, which killed at least three people, wounded several others and heavily damaged a number of buildings. No Iranian diplomat was hurt in the incident.
