Int’l Conference in Tehran to Challenge Sanctions against World States

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) plans to hold an international conference in Tehran on Monday and Tuesday in which the legal basis of sanctions and their negative impacts on the development of world states will be discussed.

“The OIC Independent and Permanent Commission of Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) will hold a two-day conference in Iran from Monday to review the legal bases of sanctions and their obstacles in the way of the development of countries,” Mostafa Alayee, the deputy director general for human rights and women affairs at the Iranian foreign ministry,  said in a press conference in Tehran on Sunday.

The conference will be held with 18 experts introduced by member countries of the OIC in attendance and four other international experts on the human rights and sanctions.

Iran's Vice-President for Legal Affairs Elham Aminzadeh and Chief of the Judiciary’s Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani will deliver speeches in the opening ceremony of the conference.

The IPHRC, in its final statement, plans to call on the United Nations Human Rights Council to develop a mechanism for monitoring sanctions imposed against UN member states.

Western countries have imposed illegal sanctions against Iran under the pretext of curbing the country’s nuclear ambitions.

Iran has repeatedly emphasized the peaceful nature of its nuclear energy program and reassured the world that it has nothing to hide regarding its civilian atomic program.
