Israel behind Terrorism in Syria: Iran’s VP
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on Syria, saying there is no doubt that the Zionist regime has been involved in the presence of terrorists in the Arab country.
“If previously there was any doubt that terrorist groups entered Syria through the interference and provocation by the Zionist regime, today and after this attack, there is no doubt anymore,” Jahangiri said during a meeting with a high-ranking Syrian delegation headed by Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi in Tehran on Tuesday.
“Syria has held a privileged position in the Muslim world and in the resistance front but the enemies, particularly the Zionist regime together with certain regional states have plotted to harm Syria’s position,” he added.
Earlier this month, the Syrian military said in a statement that Israel has carried out two air strikes near the capital Damascus.
Israeli planes bombed the area near Damascus international airport and the town of Dimas, the Syrian army said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Jahangiri described Iran-Syria relations as “strategic” and said the two countries are facing common threats and should preserve their ties.
The vice president also reiterated Tehran’s unwavering support for Damascus, saying the Islamic Republic will side with the Syrian nation in all arenas.
He also expressed the hope that the Syrian prime minister’s meetings with the Iranian officials would produce results in line with the interests of the two countries.
