Iran’s Air Defense Employs Advanced Gear in Drills
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Air Defense uses a range of advanced systems in the massive military exercises underway in south and southeast of the country, commander of the force said, noting that some of the equipment, including two new radars, will be employed for the first time.
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday, Iran’s Air Defense Commander Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said some the new achievements of his forces will be unveiled and operated during the ongoing wargame, codenamed “Muhammad Rasulullah” (Muhammad, the messenger of God).
“In the wargame, we will unveil and test the Fath-2 radar apparatus, a tactical radar with very good capabilities in electronic warfare and in identifying small aircraft,” he said.
The commander also noted that another radar, known as the Saamen-2, will be unveiled in the exercises, explaining that its operational range has been extended compared to the previous version, the Saamen-1.
The Raased-32 system, used for aerial monitoring, is another equipment used in the military exercise, Esmaili added.
Back in April, when Raased-32 was unveiled, the commander said it can detect the flying targets’ direction, altitude and velocity. The system is capable of transmitting the collected data to the Control Center from a range of more than 15 kilometers, he had announced.
Elsewhere in his Saturday’s comments, the top officer referred to the Sayyad-40 as another system stationed in the drill area for electronic intelligence purposes, saying it can counteract the aircraft that work in radio silence or radar silence conditions.
The large-scale drill will run until December 31 in an area of 2.2 million square kilometers, stretching from the northern Indian Ocean (10 degrees latitude) to the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf and in the southern and southeastern Iranian provinces of Sistan and Balouchestan and Hormozgan.
