Iran Test-Fires Optimized Air-to-Ground Missile in Drills

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Air Force on Sunday test-fired an air-to-ground missile, optimized by the local experts, during Army's huge military exercises.

As regards features of the upgraded missile, General Mansour Vanak, a ranking Air Force official, said the missiles can hit the targets with pinpoint accuracy.

The other significant feature of the missile is its “operational range”, which outstrips that of the enemy’s air defense missiles, Vanak explained.

Since Thursday, Iran’s Army has staged a large-scale drill in an area of 2.2 million square kilometers, stretching from the northern Indian Ocean (10 degrees latitude) to the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf and in the southern and southeastern Iranian provinces of Sistan and Balouchestan and Hormozgan.

On Sunday, the Air Force warplanes supported the Navy’s vessels across the Sea of Oman.

The F-4 Phantom fighter jets fired a number of Maverick air-to-ground tactical missiles to demolish the afloat targets.

And the Sukhoi Su-24 fighter-bombers also fired the optimized Iranian missiles at the naval targets.

The drill will run until December 31.
