Bahraini Scholars Call for Massive Rally to Support Sheikh Salman
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Prominent religious scholars in Bahrain strongly condemned the recent arrest of the country's opposition figure by the ruling regime forces, and called for a massive rally to voice support for Sheikh Ali Salman.
In a statement, senior Bahraini scholars asked all religious scholars and students in the Persian Gulf country to hold a demonstration on Monday in Imam Sadiq Mosque in Alguful district of Bahraini capital to voice protest at the arrest of Sheikh Ali Salman, the secretary general of al-Wefaq National Islamic Society.
The scholars deplored the arrest of al-Wefaq leader by Al Khalifa regime as a very dangerous measure and a new crisis, and warned the ruling regime would be responsible for its consequences.
According to a report by Al-Alam TV Network, the statement also said that any move against Sheikh Salman is a measure against the whole Bahraini nation.
They further called for the urgent freedom of the opposition leader, and stressed that people would not give up their rights and remain loyal to their revolution, demands, and figures.
They noted that paying attention to people’s righteous demands would be the sole solution to the crisis in the country, not arresting their popular figures.
The statement came as al-Wefaq Society announced Sunday that Al Khalifa forces have detained Sheikh Salman after long hours of investigations.
