Iranian, US Energy Chiefs Hold Talks in Geneva
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi and US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz met twice on Sunday.
They held two rounds of talks in the Swiss city of Geneva as part of bilateral talks on Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
On Friday, negotiators from Iran and the US started a new round of bilateral nuclear negotiations in Geneva at the level of deputy foreign ministers.
Salehi and Moniz joined the negotiations for the first time on Saturday, raising expectations that the talks are reaching an important stage.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry are also expected to join the Geneva negotiations on Sunday and Monday.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s civilian nuclear energy program.
