Too Soon to Claim Progress in Nuclear Talks: Iran’s Araqchi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Senior Iranian negotiator Abbas Araqchi described the Geneva diplomatic meetings on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program as “fruitful”, but played down expectations on any progress made in the talks.

"It was as usual very good. Good fruitful discussions, and in a very good atmosphere. We cannot claim any progress yet, it is too early to say," Araqchi, who is also Iran’s deputy foreign minister, was quoted as saying by Sputnik in Geneva on Sunday.

Since Friday, negotiators from Iran and the US have started a new round of bilateral talks on Tehran’s nuclear energy program in the Swiss city at the level of deputy foreign ministers.

The talks are expected to continue on Monday at an expert level with discussions on the technical issues.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
