Iran Favors Political Consensus on President Election in Lebanon
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister said Tehran supports the process of president election in Lebanon that entails political consensus among all parties in the Arab country.
Tehran supports the election of a Lebanese president in the shortest possible time on the basis of consensus among the entire political parties inside that country, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Monday.
He made the comments in a meeting with Lebanon’s Minister of Education and Higher Learning Elias Bou Saab, who visited Iran to attend a ministerial conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Amir Abdollahian also noted that Iran attaches significance to “stability and calm” in Lebanon, and voiced Tehran’s readiness to broaden ties with Beirut in all fields.
The visiting Arab minister, for his part, praised the supports Iran has provided for his country.
The Lebanese parliament has failed in several attempt to elect a new president after former President Michel Suleiman's term ended in May 2014.
