Iran, Malaysia Eye Stronger Cooperation on Agriculture

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian and Malaysian officials in a meeting in Kuala Lumpur explored avenues for boosting bilateral relations in various fields, as in agriculture.

In a meeting with Malaysia’s Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Douglas Unggah Embas in Kuala Lumpur, head of Iran-Malaysia parliamentary friendship group, Mohammad Mahdi Zahedi, said the two Muslim countries can “remarkably enhance ties” considering their capabilities in agriculture, industry, health and technology.

Zahedi also added that stronger relations between parliaments can prepare the ground for the promotion of ties between the two governments.

The Malaysian minister, for his part, voiced the Southeast Asian country’s readiness to enhance ties with Iran, particularly in the area of agriculture.

Back in August 2014, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the great role Iran and Malaysia have in the Muslim world.

Also in a message to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, the Iranian president described the new atmosphere of bilateral ties as positive, and expressed optimism that the new capacities would lead to the promotion of relations in various spheres.
