Russia, China Ready to Import Iran's Shrimps: Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati said Russia and China are ready for importing shrimps from Iran.

The markets of European countries as well as those of the UAE, China, and Russia are suitable target markets for Iran's shrimps, Hojjati stressed, saying that the they will soon be opened to Iranian sea products.

He described the markets of these countries as "wide and broad", citing Russia as an example with an annual consumption of 200,000 tons of shrimp.

The minister further noted that a number of agreements have been made in his recent trips to Russia and China on providing appropriate infrastructures for the exchange of high-protein products.

Last year, Iran's shrimp production witnessed a 70-percent growth compared with the previous year, Hojjati said, stressing that the country is fully capable of increasing the volume to 30,000 tons by the end of this year.

Earlier in December, a Russian official had announced that Moscow is planning to import 20,000 tons of high-quality trout and at least 3,000 tons of shrimps and seafood from Iran.
