Iranian, Spanish FMs Urge Closer Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo y Marfil stressed the need for the two countries to take serious steps to strengthen bilateral relations.
In a meeting in the Spanish capital of Madrid on Tuesday, Zarif and Garcia-Margallo explored avenues for the promotion of bilateral ties in various areas and emphasized the necessity of utilizing the two countries' existing capacities for this purpose.
They also urged enhanced cooperation in fields like energy, tourism, fisheries, agriculture, water management and railroad transportation.
The two foreign ministers further discussed the latest developments in Syria, Iraq and Yemen and underlined the importance of all-out efforts to combat terrorism.
Zarif explained about Iran's plan for restoring peace to Yemen and emphasized that the Yemeni crisis should be resolved through political means.
Iran's four-point proposal includes intra-Yemeni dialogue, humanitarian aid, ceasefire and the formation of an inclusive government in the Arabian Peninsula country, which has been under attacks by Saudi Arabia and some of its allies since March 26.
In a press conference after his meeting with Zarif, the Spanish Foreign Minister said he hopes the agreement on Iran's nuclear program will be finalized in June, pointing out that all sanctions against Iran must be lifted immediately.
He was referring to the framework agreement recently reached between Iran and world powers on Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.
The preliminary agreement was finalized on April 2 in the Swiss city of Lausanne, while the finalized agreement is planned to be negotiated by the end of June.
