Greece Eyes Stronger Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The new Greek ambassador to Iran voiced Athens' willingness to expand relations with Tehran in various fields, saying that Greece seeks to be Iran's strategic friend.

Greece's new ambassador to Iran George Aifantis met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Monday to submit his letter of credence.

The envoy hailed Iran as an independent and influential country in the Middle East and Asia, and said Athens wants to be Tehran's strategic friend and partner.

He also expressed his country's opposition to attempts aimed at isolating countries and the use of arrogant policies by imposing economic sanctions on others.

President Rouhani in this meeting referred to the long history of the relations between Iran and Greece, and said Tehran is fully prepared to develop relations with Athens

The president also hailed Greece's moderate stances on various developments in recent years.

He further criticized the unacceptable use of sanctions in the world and said the era of putting pressure on countries by resorting to “the wrong tool of sanction” has ended.
