Iran's Biggest Solar Power Plant to Be Operational in Two Years
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's largest solar power plant is planned to come on stream and connect to national grid in the next two years, the operator of the project said.
The Iranian photovoltaic power station is to be constructed in the Aras Free Trade-Industrial Zone in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan, Mehrdad Tabegar, the public relations officer of the company running the project, said.
He said the power plant, which will be constructed on a 3,423-square-meter plot of land, is going to be the country's largest solar plant.
"The project will be completed and its generated electricity will enter the national grid in less than 24 months," he noted.
Iran has recently unveiled plans to diversify electricity generation from the plants that use renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power.
The country’s electricity industry ranks 14th in the world and first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation by having an installed power generation capacity of 67,806 MW.
