Iran Starts Preparations for Maximum Security in Next Year's Elections
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaqari on Tuesday unveiled plans for ensuring the security of parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections, due to be held in early 2016.
In a bid to ensure "100 percent security" in the 2016 elections, the ministry this time has started its electoral activities earlier so as to identify and tackle possible security challenges, Zolfaqari said.
The Iranian official also announced that, as part of the security plans for the polls, the cyber-space will be monitored by the country's security forces and the Interior Ministry.
He further noted that 60,000 ballot boxes will be provided in polling stations, and 300,000 forces will be employed for ensuring security during the voting process.
There are currently 290 seats in the Iranian parliament, known as Majlis, whose members are elected by direct vote of people in nationwide election for four years.
The Assembly of Experts is also a high-ranking body that elects and oversees the activities of the leader of the Islamic Revolution.
Members of the assembly are directly elected to office by people for an eight-year term.
