Survivor of Hiroshima Atomic Bombing Calls for A World Free from Nukes

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Sada Yamamoto, a survivor of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945, asked the international community to help create a world free from nuclear weapons.

Speaking in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency on the sidelines of a ceremony held in Washington DC on Monday evening to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Yamamoto touched upon the aftermath of the bombings and called for annihilation of nuclear arms.

“I have come here to tell the world about my memories (in a bid to help) all countries to be free from atomic bombs,” he said.

During the ceremony, he also delivered a speech and offered his story about the US nuclear attack on Hiroshima during the final months of World War II.

In August 1945, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The two bombings, which killed at least 129,000 people, remain the only use of nuclear weapons for warfare in history.
