Doctors Without Borders Seeks Iran's Help

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Doctors Without Borders, a French-founded humanitarian organization, has called on Iran to broaden its medical assistance activities to more countries in the world, an Iranian official said.

President of Iran's Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Amir Mohsen Ziya'ee said the MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières, the French term for Doctors Without Borders) has called on Iran to enhance its international medical aid activities.

The Iranian official referred to the joint cooperation between the IRCS and MSF, saying that within the framework of this cooperation, "we will expand our services to 20 countries in the world."

He said the decision was made after his recent meeting with Dr. Mego Terzian, president of MSF in France.

Ziya'ee said he and Terzian also discussed the dire situation in Yemen, caused by more than three months of Saudi-led military attacks.

The MSF official deplored the worrying situation of Yemen and lack of proper paths for delivering international humanitarian aid to the war-hit people of the Arab country, Ziya'ee went on to say.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to launch deadly air strikes against Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to a civil coalition monitoring Saudi Arabia's crimes, 3043 people, including 722 children and 532 women, have been killed during 95 days of Saudi-led military strikes on the Arab country.

Yemen's Health Ministry also says the Saudi-led aerial strikes have targeted 61 hospitals and a lot of ambulances.

The ministry also reports deterioration of health conditions in Yemen, saying some 20,000 people have caught malaria and some infected children have died due to lack of medication.
