Iran's Navy Devising Plans for Makran Coasts Development

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian Navy commander said the force has drawn up a grand plan for developing the coasts of Makran, located in southeast of the country.

"The Navy has extensive plans for those coasts (Makran), which will turn into one of the world's most beautiful and best coasts in the future," Navy Lieutenant Commander Rear Admiral Gholam Reza Khadem Bigham said in Iran's northern city of Rasht on Monday.

Pasabandar, also known as the coasts of Makran, is located in Iran's southeastern region, next to the Oman Sea.

The strategic area has attracted the attention of many Iranian decision-makers and military officials, particularly after Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need for development of the region.

Back in November 2014, in a meeting with high-ranking navy commanders, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "The issue of development of the coasts of Makran is also among those basic tasks, and the plans for that region should be carried out more rapidly."

The Navy is now developing a naval base at the coastal area of Pasabandar.

Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said in April that construction of the base's breakwater was over, adding that installation of equipment in the base would be completed gradually.
