Official Urges Expansion of Iran-Georgia Tourism Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Massoud Soltanifar highlighted the abundant capacities for promotion of tourism cooperation between Tehran and Tbilisi.
Speaking in a Sunday meeting with the visiting Deputy Chairman of Georgian Parliament Gubaz Sanikidze, Soltanifar underlined the need for development of bilateral collaborations in the field of tourism.
“The number of tourists traveling between Iran and Georgia is not considerable,” he said, calling for a strong resolve for an increase in the number of tourists.
“There is a very good ground for the cooperation between the two countries in economic, scientific, and cultural aspects,” he further noted.
Sanikidze, for his part, said that the two countries have had positive interaction in the past centuries, and that it is time to rebuild the traditional relations.
“Georgians have long been familiar with Iran’s rich culture, and if I had a say in UNESCO, I would inscribe Iran in its entirety in the UNESCO World Heritage List,” he added.
Iran is one of the countries Tbilisi wants to have special relations with, the Georgian lawmaker said, adding that Iran has a bright future in attracting tourists, particularly after the nuclear conclusion reached between Tehran and world powers on July 14.
