Iran Parliament Speaker’s US Visit Not Finalized Yet: Adviser

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The attendance of Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Ali Larijani in the upcoming gathering of parliament speakers in the US is yet to be finalized, an international adviser to Larijani said on Wednesday.

“Larijani’s trip to New York City to attend World Conference of Parliament Speakers has not been finalized yet,” Hossein Sheikholeslam told the Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday.

“Speaker of world parliaments gather together once in every five years and hold a joint meeting with the United Nations, but it is yet to be decided whether Mr. Larijani attends the summit or not,” he added.

The Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament will be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday 31 August to Wednesday, 2 September 2015.

This summit is a unique forum for dialogue and cooperation between parliaments at the highest level.

The overall theme of the Conference will focus on peace, democracy, and development seen through the parliamentary lens.

The Conference, which is convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), is part of the series of high-level meetings leading up to the UN Summit in late September 2015, at which the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be launched.
