Iranian Cleric Warns about Possible Breaches of JCPOA by West
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tehran's Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati called on the Iranian authorities to remain vigilant against West's possible move to breach a lasting accord between Iran and six world powers over the country's nuclear energy program, also known as JCPOA.
Addressing a large group of worshippers here in Tehran on Friday, Ayatollah Jannati cast doubts over the West’s adherence to its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and emphasized that Iran should close the loopholes that the other party may find to violate its commitments.
“They break their promises and always do the same…, they just want us to be faithful (to deal),” the cleric said.
He further emphasized that the JCPOA is among those international treaties that the Iranian parliament should approve them.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 finalized the text of a lasting nuclear deal that would terminate all anti-Iran sanctions after taking effect. The United Nations Security Council also unanimously passed a resolution afterwards, endorsing the comprehensive accord.
Following the conclusion of the nuclear talks in Vienna, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had asked the Iranian officials to block the way for any “possible breach” of undertakings stipulated in the text of the agreement.
The final text of the JCPOA must be carefully examined and pass though “the predicted legal channels”, the Leader said in response to a letter by President Hassan Rouhani.
“We are well aware that some of the six states in the opposite side are not trustworthy at all,” the Leader underscored.
