Iran Just Laughs at US Threats, Commander Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari on Monday downplayed US anti-Iran war rhetoric, reiterating that the country would show a crushing response to any aggression.

“We just laugh at their (US) threats,” Sayyari told the Tasnim News Agency regarding threats made by US officials against the country.

He also reassured that Iran’s maritime borders are fully secure and the country would not allow anyone to think of aggression on the borders.

Earlier on August 6, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had also downgraded repetitive anti-Iran remarks by American officials, saying that they had better make a change in their policies.

“The shaky foundation of the dangerous and invalid project of Iranophobia has collapsed,” Zarif said in a statement released in reaction to a recent address by US President Barack Obama, where he had once again repeated his anti-Iran remarks.

He further urged US officials to abandon their “dangerous and harmful habit” of using war rhetoric, saying that the approach belongs to “past centuries”.

“We once again remind the US officials that for nearly a century, the civilized world has abandoned the option of using force and threats as a foreign policy tool, and considers it not only inhumane and illegal, but also inefficient,” Zarif stressed.

Back in May, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei reaffirmed that the Iranian nation will not let any possible act of aggression against the country go unanswered.

The Leader said he has already made it clear, even in the tenure of former US president, that "the era of hit and run has ended", and that the Iranian nation will chase aggressors.
