Iran’s Larijani to Meet World Parliament Speakers in New York
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Ali Larijani, who is visiting the US city of New York, will meet a number of his counterparts on the sidelines of the ongoing World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
“In these meetings (with world parliament speakers), bilateral ties and the country’s development through joint investments as well as regional and international issues will be discussed,” Larijani said upon his arrival in New York City on Saturday.
The Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament will be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York from August 31 to Wednesday, September 2, 2015.
Larijani referred to “democracy, peace, and sustainable development” as the main concerns of the conference, adding that it seeks to establish a closer and clearer connection between world parliaments and governments.
Speakers of Parliament from around the world have a unique opportunity to launch a new era of political leadership with the potential to transform the world when they meet for a conference at UN Headquarters in New York.
About 180 parliamentary leaders, including more than 35 Deputy Speakers, from nearly 140 countries taking part in the Fourth edition of the conference will examine ways to effectively tackle global challenges to peace and democracy.
The Conference is part of the series of high-level meetings leading up to the UN Summit in late September 2015, at which the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be launched.
