TEHRAN (Tasnim) – High-ranking officials from Iran and South Africa signed a cooperation agreement as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries in various political and economic areas.
The document was signed during the closing session of the 6th Iran-South Africa political commission co-chaired by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian and visiting South African Deputy Foreign Minister Nomaindia Mfeketo in Tehran on Sunday evening, the official website of the Iranian foreign ministry reported on Monday.
During the meeting, Amir Abdollahian praised the growing trend of bilateral ties between the two countries, and said the Islamic Republic will not forget those countries that supported it during the sanctions era.
He further pointed to South Africa's presence in Iran’s major economic projects, stressing that in the newly-emerged atmosphere after the nuclear agreement between Tehran and six world powers, South Africa can invest in major oil, gas and petrochemical projects.
South African deputy ministers of energy, security and finance were among the high-ranking delegation that accompanied Mfeketo in the meeting.
