Envoy Calls on IAEA to Keep Confidentiality of Iran’s Information

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s top diplomat at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) asked the UN agency to adopt special measures to preserve the confidentiality of Iran’s information.

“One of the commitments (of IAEA) is keeping the secret information but unfortunately some parts of the secret information leaked from the IAEA in the past,” Reza Najafi told reporters after the IAEA Board of Governors meeting in Vienna on Thursday.

“Since spy agencies are trying to penetrate into the IAEA, this organization should multiply its efforts to protect the confidentiality of information,” he stated, noting, “The IAEA should also consider Iran's security concerns in the Roadmap.”

As regards bilateral meetings between Iran and the UN agency, Najafi said, “We will hold the technical meeting in Tehran soon.”

He added that that the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) is now studying the questionnaires sent by the IAEA.

Asked about Parchin military site, Najafi said constructions in a military site like Parchin is something normal.

Today meeting came a few weeks after the IAEA announced that it has received documents from Iran as part of a Roadmap agreement earlier reached between the two sides.

Iran provided the IAEA with its explanation in writing and related documents as agreed in the Roadmap for the clarification of past and present outstanding issues regarding Iran’s nuclear program, concluded between the IAEA and the Islamic Republic of Iran on 14 July 2015, a statement by the Agency read.

According to the Roadmap, after receiving Iran's written explanations and related documents, the IAEA will review the information by 15 September 2015, and will submit to Iran questions on any possible ambiguities regarding such information.

The Roadmap was signed on the day when Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.
