Parchin Samples Taken without IAEA Inspectors’ Presence: AEOI Spokesman
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Spokesman for Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi announced that Iranian nuclear experts have carried out the sampling in Parchin military site without UN inspectors being present.
“Last week, a number of environment samples were taken from specific points in Parchin (military) site only by Iranian experts and without the presence of (International Atomic Energy) Agency’s inspectors,” Kamalvandi told IRNA on Monday.
He further noted that the samples were collected according to the relevant standards and rules, and the samples were given to IAEA experts.
The remarks came after the UN nuclear agency’s chief paid a visit to Parchin on Sunday.
Kamalvandi on Sunday said the visit by IAEA Chief Yukiya Amano took place as a formality arranged during his one-day official trip to the country.
“In this tour, Yukiya Amano visited some of the workshop locations at the compound that have been the subject of unfounded allegations, especially the process of the repair and reconstruction of the access road to the Mamlou Dam near Parchin, which went down in a landslide due to recent rainfall,”he explained.
The West has claimed that secret nuclear activity is underway at the site, an allegation Tehran has categorically denied.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France and Germany) finalized the JCPOA in the Austrian capital of Vienna on July 14.
On the same day, Iran and the IAEA signed a Road-map for the clarification of past and present issues.
As part of the Road-map, the IAEA is required to finish its investigations about Iran’s nuclear activities and submit a report to the agency’s board by December 15.
