Iran, France Inaugurate Fish Farm on Southern Iranian Island
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Bringing a joint agricultural project with France into fruition, Iran inaugurated a big fish farm on its southern island of Qeshm on Monday.
The project was inaugurated through video conference by the agricultural ministers of Iran and France, in Tehran.
The fish farm has been constructed in a deprived area 50 km away from the city of Qeshm with the purposes of creating jobs, Alireza Keihani, head of the public relations department at the Iranian Fisheries Organization told Tasnim.
The agricultural facility has an annual capacity of producing 10,000 tons of “seabream” fish in 200 cages, the official said.
Iran’s Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati had announced earlier that his ministry has put attracting foreign investment top on the agenda in a bid to stimulate the country’s agricultural growth.
“Having signed a law to support and encourage foreign investors and present investment opportunities in the agricultural sector, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s administration has prepared the ground for the inflow of foreign investors,” Hojjati said in May 2014.
Since Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) finalized the text of a lasting deal on Tehran’s nuclear program in July, Europeans have been vying to get the most out of abundant economic opportunities in Iran following termination of the sanctions.
