Iran Attaches Importance to Ties with Latin America: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed that Tehran is determined to boost ties with Latin American states, including Bolivia, adding that no third party can decide on the future of the relations between the two friendly countries.

Speaking in a meeting with his Bolivian counterpart, Evo Morales, in New York on Sunday afternoon, President Rouhani praised ties between the two countries as close and friendly and said, “No third government can decide for Iran-Bolivia relations.”

“We independently decide on what we consider to be in the interest of our government and people,” he added.

He further emphasized that the Islamic Republic attaches great significance to its ties with Latin American countries, Bolivia in particular, noting that the two sides should make further efforts to boost the relations in all spheres.

The Bolivian president, for his part, praised the recent nuclear agreement between Tehran and six world powers, saying that Iran’s success in the nuclear negotiations, which was a victory against imperialism, made Bolivia proud.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.

Rouhani’s meeting with Morales was held on the sidelines of the 70th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.
